While Grapevine offers several family-friendly events throughout the year, maybe the most popular is December’s, “Christmas in Grapevine,” “The Christmas Capital of Texas.” Each winter, the city sponsors more than 1,400 Christmas events in 40 plus days, when the city sparkles with millions of lights, decorations, animated characters and more.

Grapevine Christmas Carol of Lights

The Grapevine Christmas Capital of Texas® kicks off with merriment and fanfare with the ceremonial “flip of the switch” illuminating the live 30′ Christmas tree and all of Historic Downtown Grapevine! This entertaining presentation will blend traditional favorites and contemporary sights and sounds to warm the heart and excite the soul, including more than one million lights in Historic Downtown Grapevine. Live music and fireworks will also be included in the presentation.
Make Christmas ornaments, string popcorn and cranberries and enjoy cupcake and cookie decorating (to take home). Take a photo taken in an authentic turn-of-the-century sleigh pulled by a live reindeer.
Bring the entire family to the Parade of Lights, the largest lighted Christmas parade in North Texas. This Grapevine tradition features more than 100 lighted floats and marching bands. Look for Santa Claus on the last float! Come early to claim your spot along Historic Main Street to watch this exciting free holiday event.

Maybe the most popular attraction is the Grapevine Vintage Railroad’s North Pole Express® co-presented by the Children’s Courtyard and Great Wolf Lodge.

The adventure begins at the Historic Cotton Belt Depot platform where riders board the beautifully decorated Victorian Rail coaches. As the train departs, anticipation of arriving at the North Pole builds as elves welcome the guests and sing traditional Christmas music.

As the train nears the North Pole, Mrs. Claus makes a special appearance and gives each child a “We Believe” silver Santa bell. Upon arriving at the North Pole, guests walk along a snowy Christmas Tree trail, where they are entertained with songs and magical Christmas moments as they wait for an appearance by Santa. Santa finally arrives and wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and then shares his Frosty Chocolate Snow Milk served in a memory mug to all the boys and girls. Families will also receive a voucher for a complimentary Family Photo with Santa. Limit one per family.
All of that is just the beginning. There’s a parade, where visitors can vote for a favorite Christmas float, Main St. LIVE entertainment, the Christmas Wine Train, lighted evening events, classic Christmas movies, LEGOLAND Discovery Center’s Holiday Bricktacular and so much more. Many events are free.
Out of towners can take advantage of special hotel packages.
“Christmas in Grapevine” runs from mid-November to early January.
